In addition to being an active birder Rod is a founding member of the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory (BPBO), which operates the nearby Cabot Head Research Station, and remains active in BPBO’s many bird monitoring activites. He is engaged in annual surveys of Red-necked Grebes, grassland birds, owls and breeding birds on the Bruce.

As part of the BPBO team, over the past three years he has been deeply involved in building a breeding inventory and providing public education regarding the several avian species at risk in the area. He is part of a small group of Bruce County birders who are working towards the establishment of a Bruce County birding trail.

Currently retired, after a 30 year career as an educator, and living along the Lake Huron shore at Cape Hurd just outside of Tobermory, Rod lives amidst the many birds that migrate and breed in the area. While rewarding community involvement takes up an increasing amount of his time and effort these days, Rod makes sure that there is always time for the birds!
